Weekend drive to known/unknown parts - 9/26
So, Run for the Borders didn't happen, but the enthusiasm is not dampened.
Saturday, Sept. 26 we are heading to Taos up the high road. Might just stop there for the day and play tourist. Of course, if there is interest in turning it into an Enchanted Circle Tour, that would be easy enough. The route back is optinal, but there are some different roads I've been wanting to try out...
Unless other suggestions are made, the plan is to depart Albuquerque at 8:00 a.m. Saturday from the Flying Star on Paseo at Paseo del Norte and Wyoming.
Should be a scenic drive this time of the year.
There are wineries, orchards, scenic spots and more on this drive.

This sounds cool. I think I'm free all day but I need to check to make sure. Count me in as an "almost entirely sure I can go." I'll have it figured out by lunch tomorrow. See ya at Sonic!
The coolest part . . .I now have 2 Rino GPS's that do position reporting! One in the lead car and one in the tail car! Should be fun to play with.

There might be two of us coming up from El Paso for this. I will let you know for sure though soon.

Hi Loeschers,
Thanks for checking in. I imagine you will already be in Albuquerque, but let us know if you need extra time to get here Saturday morning.
Max, curious about this GPS thing. Maybe I'll take the back position.

My son and I will be there!
Hope to see you there. Is "ftttubrgcm" the other party coming from El Paso?
Just curious.....I missed meeting up with him at Silverstone.

Guys, sorry but we are not going to be able to make it this weekend. We are going to stay local today and get a sneak preview of the new MINI dealership that is opening up down here on 1 Dec.

This was a great drive, lots of beautiful scenery, and heart stirring twisty turns
up and down through the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Upon arrival in Taos, we
stopped for a fine lunch at Michael’s Kitchen then spent a free form afternoon
rooming the Plaza and Galleries downtown. We chose to again take the “high road”
for our return back to Santa Fe then ABQ. I didn’t know what a rich history, wealth
of sites to see, and things to do that the “High Road to Taos” has to offer. Follow
this link if you want to learn more.
High Road to Taos
Thanks to the yelrsub’s for heading-up the trip, and to all who made the journey
with us. I know that I will want to make many more forays into small villages, pueblos,
and points of interest to be found along the High Road. Who knows, maybe a few focused Mini runs will be planned?
Cheers……..

Indeed the day was great fun; many thanks to our flexible and entertaining group. We provided a little economic stimulus to some local artists along the way.
El Paso folks, let us know when you can come up again and we'll try to get you out on those back roads.
Be sure to check out the Trinity Site / VLA run this coming weekend, too. Not so many twisties, but quite interesting sites with a lot of history.
As for the new MINI dealership -- it certainly is nice to have one close by. Maybe post some photos and info about them?
Photos from the Taos trip will be posted soon.

Taos trip photos:
High Road to Taos

Anyone know what the car is in the last photo? It was seen in Santa Fe. I enlarged the photo as much as I could and could only tell the name on the side was two words. The first word appears to start with an A, the second word maybe with an R?

The "Mystery" car is a Kaiser. I would guess a '54 or '55. The 55's were the last year & very rare-basically they were leftovers.

Thanks babybok! Sounds like it's a fairly rare breed based on the info in your link. Good eye!
